I recently discovered @blessingmanifesting’s instagram and I absolutely love it. I’m constantly caught between loving and hating instagram (loving it for the artwork, hating it for everything else). This person has so many cute mental health related images and I’m really digging it.
I haven’t been reading a lot, lately. The reason for this is that I wrote a book for my childhood friend, and it’s been a lot of work. I had the idea to do this in January, because we are big on reminiscing about our childhood memories and adventures. She also used to religiously read my greatestjournal, and so I thought it would be cute to turn our favorite memories into stories. This was all much easier and quicker in my head than it ended up being, but I think it will be worth it when I can finally give it to her.
Despite my lack of reading and updating, I do have two books that I adored and would like to recommend:
The first is Beach Read by Emily Henry. This one is a non-cringeworthy romance novel that made me feel all warm and fuzzy. I was sad when I finished it and instantly re-read it. It’s about two writers who become neighbors and are polar opposites. One writes cheery romance novels, while the other writes darker, doom and gloom novels. As a challenge and exercise to overcome writer’s block, they decide to swap genres. They subsequently decide to take each other on outings/dates that serve as lessons to help assist with writing in their particular genres. I loved it so much and gave it 5/5 stars.
The second recommendation is If I Had Your Face by Frances Cha. This novel is about four women in Korea, and how they are impacted by Korean society. It covers prostitution, cosmetic-surgery, classicism and K-Pop. I was glued to this story, and felt like I was able to take a glimpse into a different culture. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer and more in-depth. It did feel that some of the stories and topics were not fully covered and addressed. However, that honestly didn’t take away from how much I loved it and how beautiful the writing was. This one is another 5/5 star read (I think I’m getting softer– I’ve had a lot of 5-star reviews, lately).
Both of these books happen to be nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards, so that’s nifty.
